2017 Temperature Blanket

So I decided to combine my love of data visualization and crochet to create a blanket tracking the daily temperature for Boston, MA.

Guidelines

Colors

The colors are all staple Caron Simply Soft yarn colors, some of which have yet to actually be chosen…

22° and below

23° – 32°

33° – 43°

 

44° – 53°: Light Blue (TBD)
54° – 66°: Light Green (TBD)
67° – 77°: Green (TBD)
78° – 88°: Yellow-Orange (TBD)
89° and above: Red (TBD)

Data

All my weather data comes the day after from Time and Date.com. The day’s weather is broken up into four sets of high and low (12AM, 6AM, 12PM, 6PM) which I average for the day’s temperature.

Pattern

The pattern I’ve chosen is a larger version of the Feather and Fan Baby Blanket by Alexis Middleton. Instead of the written 119 starting FSC, I’ve done 153 FSC for a larger blanket.

Just finished stitching day 7 (gray).

Another AT-AT Update

Progress

31 of 42 pieces of the AT-AT are done. I’ve assembled and stuffed one leg, so I could feel a bit more accomplished… Most of the pieces of the legs/body are finished. We’re in the final stretch here!

 

There have been some minor casualties though, so I may need to take a day or two off to heal.

Or maybe just iron, stuff and sew. We’ll see.

Silly stats:

  • 381 total rows crocheted
  • 7 Band-Aids total (three still attached)
  • Another cat fight broken up
  • Currently watching:
    • The Magicians: Episode 1
      • I was fairly unimpressed with the book, we’ll see how the show does…
  • Have watched (approx. 11 hours of media) since last check-in (in no order):
    • Episodes 3-6 of Crazyhead
      • If you liked Buffy, enjoy British humor and like dark comedy/horror – I recommend it.
    • Episodes 1 and 2 of Troll Hunters
      • Meh. Love Del Toro and Anton Yelchin, but this didn’t keep my attention.
    • Cabin in the Woods
      • Staple of horror/comedy
    • Episodes 1-4 of White Rabbit Project
      • The younger Mythbusters take on history, superhero tech, crazy inventions, etc.
    • Ghostbusters (2016) Extended Cut

AT-AT: Progress!

Onto day two of my adventures making the cute little AT-AT Walker. 18 pieces are complete of the 42 total needed… After that it’s weaving in ends, ironing and finally sewing and stuffing.

Some useless stats from the process:

  • 231 total rows crocheted
  • 2 Band-aids applied (and subsequently lost)
  • 3 attempts by cats to eat/steal my yarn
    • 1 cat fight broken up
  • 1/3 of a six-pack consumed this evening
  • 5 movies, 2 episodes (approx. 11 hours) watched thus far. (You can follow my weird movie habits on Trakt if you so desire)

So… Yeah. That’s where we’re at today. Got any movie recommendations for me? Always looking for something to watch while I work. Leave ’em in the comments.

AT-AT Walker Begins!

Thanks to my lovely friend Steve, I now have Kamila Krawka Krawczyk‘s adorable AT-AT Star Wars pattern. I’ll be updating my progress on my Ravelry page as I go (and probably here as well).

Here’s what I’m working with:

Yarn:

  • Loops & Threads “Snuggly Wuggly” in Soft Gray (DK weight, 446 yd, 5 oz)
  • Loops & Threads “Snuggly Wuggly” in Dove Gray (DK weight, 446 yd, 5oz)
  • Unknown black yarn from stash. (Approx. DK weight. Scrap.)

Hook:

  • 2.75mm “C”

The pattern calls for a sport weight yarn and a 3.0mm hook for a finished size of about 10″ x 11.” I have yet to check my gauge, but I’m guessing my final product will be slightly smaller.
